About
Dr. Michael Sutton, an Associate Professor in the Bill and Vieve Gore School of Business at Westminster, brings a unique view to his specialty of Knowledge Management (KM). His comprehensive career in senior corporate and consulting positions encompasses nearly four decades associated with Business Planning, Business Process Management, Education, Knowledge Management, Management Consulting, and Document and Records Management. He graduated in 2007 with his PhD from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He is currently residing in the USA. His academic teaching passion was recognized with a teaching excellence award when he taught full-time for three years at Kent State University while finishing his dissertation.
Michael has many publications to his credit, most notably a watermark book on institutional memory management/content management, Document Management for the Enterprise: Principles, Techniques, and Applications, (Wiley & Sons: New York, 1996), which has been widely adopted internationally by corporations and universities and recently translated into Russian.
An invitation to be a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of a new book, Girard, (2009). Building Organizational Memories: Will You Know What You Knew?, (IGI Global: Hershey, PA), has resulted in a published chapter entitled A Manifesto for the Preservation of Organizational Memory Associated with Knowledge Management.
Michael has provided consulting services to a range of clients: from Microsoft Corporation and UN Agencies to the Canadian Security Intelligence Service and the US Department of the Navy. Michael has been referred to by numerous industry leaders as a North American KM Thought Leader.
As an instructor, Michael strongly believes that his role is to pique the curiosity of learners and facilitate their discovery and exploration of new, relevant content that matches their professional aspirations. He feels his responsibility as a teacher is to guide learners in developing strong competencies in critical observation, critical thinking, self-examination, and problem-solving. Since Michael is an interdisciplinary proponent of Knowledge Management (KM), he integrates KM tools, methods, and techniques into his instructional strategies and courses.
